Out of Programme (OOPs) – doing something different

Overview

Members of the RCSEd Trainees Committee will be hosting a webinar with a number of senior trainees and consultants who have taken time out of programme (OOP) for a multitude of opportunities. We will hear from those who have been OOP for research, leadership fellowships and for clinical experience abroad. Listen in to hear about a range of opportunities on offer during your surgical training and tips on how best to achieve these and how to gain extra funding to help you along the way.

Aims

To showcase a range of opportunities available during surgical training.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should:

  • Gain insight into options beyond the surgical training pathway
  • Gain knowledge about how to apply for these opportunities

 

Panellists

Our panellists include:

  • Paul Stirling - Orthopaedic Registrar in South East Scotland, who has completed hand fellowships both abroad (USA) and locally before commencing his consultant post.

  • Majid Rashid - General Surgical Registrar in South East of Scotland who has undertaken a Scottish Clinical Leadership Fellowship (SCLF) working alongside NES and NHS Lothian.

  • Katie Hurst - General surgery Registrar in Oxford Deanery, Chair of the Trainees Committee and has undertaken a PhD as an academic trainee between core and higher surgical training.

  • Gregory Ekatah - Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, previous SCLF working alongside the Scottish Government and host of RCSed “Let’s talk Surgery“ podcast. Greg has also undertaken a Robotic Colorectal Fellowship abroad in Singapore General Hospital.
