Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is committed to supporting its membership by providing guidance and resources for lifelong surgical professional development, including continuing professional development (CPD).
Continuing Professional Development: A Summary Guide for Surgery
A CPD guidance document was produced by the Royal Colleges and the Federation of Surgical Specialty Associations. This Guidance document can be viewed here.
Core Principles for Continuing Professional Development
In June 2016, the Colleges and Faculties agreed the ‘Core Principles for Continuing Professional Development’. The document was also considered by the Academy’s Education Strategy Committee who welcomed the guidance as a modern, clear set of principles that aligns well with the GMC’s recommendations.
This guidance was welcomed and endorsed by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and can be viewed here.
RCSEd CPD Guidance
In August 2011, the Directors of CPD Sub-Committee of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges produced a CPD Guidance document which has been approved by College Councils. This Guidance document can be viewed here. We welcome feedback on this document at email@example.com.
The Surgeons' Portfolio, an intercollegiate resource, has been developed to assist RCSEd Fellows and Members manage the information they require for revalidation. It allows users to upload their personal development plan and include sections for recording CPD activity and facilities to create reports illustrating each user's progress against their CPD plan. To access the portfolio first login to the members area of this site and select the link.
Fellows and Members seeking advice directly from the College on CPD should contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can apply for an event to award CPD by completing an application form and returning it to the College's Education department.
