The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh endeavours to champion the education and professional development of every individual within our healthcare community at every stage of their career by improving equity to opportunities through financial support and professional connections. Our education and career development opportunities include elective support, observership placements, professional development grants and fellowship experiences, and aim to fulfil our chartered purpose of advancing professional competence and conduct in healthcare.

The Cheruvu Professional Development Grants

The Cheruvu Professional Development Grants seek to support two individuals in accessing Professional Development opportunities which further their career, and/or patient outcomes directly. Professional Development opportunities could include but are not limited to: observerships, lectureships, course fees, ITF fees , conferences, training fellowships and electives.

Applications are welcomed from UK and International Members and Fellows who are Core Trainees, Higher Trainees or Consultants within five years of their first appointment. LEDs and SAS Doctors are also eligible to apply.

Up to £1000 of funding is available for one orthopaedic surgeon, and one surgeon from any specialty.

Global CARE Scholarships: Individual Training Support

Application closed

Global CARE Scholarships aim to support individuals in Low- and Middle-Income Countries access formal qualifications, training or clinical experiences which are unavailable in their regions and will help strengthen their local healthcare systems. Funding of up to £25,000 is available to contribute towards tuition fees, travel and accommodation.

Applicants must be from low-and middle-income countries.

Global CARE Grant

The Global CARE Grant is intended to support projects in Low- and Middle-Income Countries which focus on improving access to surgical and dental care. Projects requiring up to £10,000 will be considered.

Applicants can be UK or International, but projects must be focused on Low-and Middle-Income countries.
Tom Bereznicki Dental Educational Grant

The Tom Bereznicki Dental Education Grant supports individuals undertaking dental training and qualifications in the UK. Up to £3000 of funding is available.

Applicants must be Affiliates, Members or Fellows of RCSEd, or its Dental Faculties, and be undertaking UK based qualifications.

This opportunity has been made possible by the generosity of Tom Bereznicki.

The Dental Education Grant awarded by RCSEd afforded me the opportunity harness my interest in teaching and complete my diploma year in Medical Education with the University of Dundee. During this diploma I gained skills in technology enhanced learning, leadership and research methodology all of which supported my involvement in undergraduate dental education, and I continue to develop and build on these skills to this day during my specialty training. Since then, I have embarked on my masters, which I expect to graduate from later this year. Without the support of the RCSEd, I may not have realised this goal.
