The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is proud to support our Members and Fellows in their research endeavours through a number of pump priming grants and research fellowships. Each funding opportunity aims to support not only the career of the individual but also the College’s vision to lead innovation in surgery and dentistry.

RCSEd - Cutner Research Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery

Application open

The Cutner Research Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery provides £60,000 for one year’s salary and is intended to support Members and Fellows in conducting research in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Applicants should be Core Trainees, Specialty Trainees, SAS Doctors, LEDs or Consultant who are Members or Fellows of RCSEd. Research can be conducted in the UK or Internationally.

FST - ASME Education Research Grant

Application open

The FST - ASME Education Research Grant provides up to £3000 of funding for evaluation or research into surgical education and training, which will lead to improvements in surgical education or training practises. The successful applicant will also receive one year’s free membership to ASME, and may be invited to present their work at the ASME or FST conference.

Applicants should be Core Trainees, Speciality Trainees, SAS Doctors, LED’s or Consultants who are Members or Fellows of RCSEd and/or ASME. Research can be conducted in the UK or Internationally.

RCSEd, and its Faculty of Surgical Trainers, is proud to have partnered with The Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) to establish this opportunity.

RCSEd – BSG Research Grant

Application open

The RCSEd – BSG Research grant provides £5000 of funding to one young researcher in the field of Gerodontology.  

Applicants should be an Affiliate or Member of RCSEd and/or BSG, and in the early stages of their career, preferably pre-doctoral. Research should be conducted in the UK only.
