Trainees

The Trainees career hub offers a range of support and resources for surgical trainees. It includes representation through the Trainees' Committee, a platform for junior doctors via the Foundation Trainees Surgical Societies UK (FTSS-UK), and access to the Intercollegiate Surgical Logbook for tracking career progress. Additionally, the Surgical Education Research and Innovation Lab (SERI Lab) focuses on advancing surgical education, while the Consultation Skills that Matter for Surgeons (CoSMoS) programme provides specialised training. The Core Trainee Forum aims to enhance early-stage surgical training, and the Surgical Mentoring Scheme connects trainees with experienced mentors to support their professional growth.

The Trainees’ Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is dedicated to representing and advocating for trainees. It ensures that trainee perspectives are considered in all College activities.

Intercollegiate Surgical Logbook

The Intercollegiate Surgical Logbook is managed by RCSEd and is a collaborative project of all four surgical royal colleges. The logbook has strong links to the JCST and the specialty associations. It provides a lifetime service to surgeons of all grades and specialties, as well as a growing number of allied healthcare professionals and students.

In 2024, the College has launched a new group focused on surgical education research and innovation. Edinburgh Surgery Online Tutor Recruitment

The role of the Edinburgh Surgery Online tutor involves actively engaging with students on asynchronous discussion boards typically spanning a period of five weeks. Support for students normally requires the tutor to log into the website no more than 2-3 times a week, each session lasting less than an hour.
