Regional Surgical Ambassadors Vacancies

As the Regional Surgical Ambassadors' (RSA) Network goes from strength to strength we are inviting applications from UK based Fellows to join the Network. We are recruiting in all regions across the UK for succession planning.

Edinburgh Surgery Online Tutor Recruitment

The Edinburgh Surgical Sciences Qualification, run by RCSEd and the University of Edinburgh is currently recruiting for tutors to mentor and support training surgeons in 40 different countries and at the same time enable the tutor to maintain their knowledge base.

SASLED Committee

We are looking to fill vacancies on the SASLED Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh with effect from October 2024. 

The committee members will be responsible for assisting the Chair, RCSEd SASLED Committee with educational development initiatives and promoting career development for SAS, LED, and Locally Employed Surgeons. They will support the core aspiration of the RCSEd College to allow each individual to achieve their full potential, delivering a safe and high standard of surgical care.

The closing date for receipt of appplications is 1600 hours on Friday 9 August 2024.

Joint Specialty Fellowship (JSF) Specialty Lead

The role of JSF Specialty lead is to oversee activity relating to their specialty particularly relating to JSF accreditation and examinations.  The objectives of the lead will include but not be limited to:

  • Chairing the JSF Specialty Committee
  • Leading the delivery of the JSF examinations with our partners
  • Leading the accreditation of training programmes and centres with our partners
  • Organising the examination team in collaboration with the Colleges
  • Ensuring the examination meets the standards of the JSF Board and Colleges
  • Producing reports on examinations as part of quality assurance

Research Committee Membership

RCSEd’s Research Committee, chaired by Professor Angus Watson, is currently seeking new members.

The Research Committee meet three times a year to review the research strategy, offer guidance on research funding allocations, assess the portfolio of fellowships and grants and create long-term plans to support areas of potential research through partnerships, specialist knowledge and medical expertise. The Committee aims to assist in research developments and support the next generation of surgeons and clinicians at key stages in their career with the overarching aim of benefiting patients and improving care.

Lay Member of JCIE

The role of the lay member of the JCIE is to represent the views and interests of a surgical patient, particularly in respect of ensuring that patient safety is at the heart of the Committee’s deliberations and decision-making.

As well as attending meetings of the JCIE, the lay member is required to contribute to the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Committee (a sub-committee of JCIE).  The business of this committee is covered within the agenda of the three JCIE meetings over the year.  The lay member is also involved in the recruitment of certain positions within the JCIE structure, such as that of IQA Committee Chair. In addition, the lay member may occasionally be asked to join short life working groups on matters relating to the JCIE’s remit.
