Bursaries
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has a number of bursaries available each year for medical and dental students.
These bursaries are available only to students who are affiliates of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
The Affiliate Network scheme offers a range of benefits for all students with an interest in surgery, including discounts on skills courses, quarterly copies of Surgeons' News and opportunities for networking and career advice. Coronation Commonwealth Bursary
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is pleased to announce a new bursary in honour of the coronation of King Charles III which will take place on 6 May 2023. The Coronation Commonwealth Bursary will provide financial assistance to outstanding individuals from Commonwealth countries to pursue an exam or a course at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Successful applicants will receive of up to £2,000 in funding to cover expenses related to their studies. To be eligible, applicants must provide proof of citizenship of a Commonwealth country.
The bursary can be used to fund an RCSEd exam or course and any associated travel, accommodation, and sustenance.
The application deadline is Tuesday 8 August 2023 (11:59 PM BST).

Bursaries for Affiliate Medical Student Elective Placements in Africa
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is offering a number of bursaries to Undergraduate Affiliates of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, enrolled at UK universities, who have planned to carry out their elective placements in Africa.
The elective need not necessarily be in a surgical specific unit but priority may be given to students demonstrating an interest in surgery. The bursary will comprise a single payment which can be used towards travel and accommodation costs or other expenses involved with the placement such as vaccinations and visas.

RCSEd/Binks Trust Medical Students Elective Travel Awards
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, is pleased to offer medical students an opportunity to apply for financial support towards their elective in Surgery. This is made possible by the generous support of the College and the Binks Trust. This award is open to medical students in the UK and the Republic of Ireland undertaking approved surgical electives abroad.
These awards will be advertised and awarded annually around April/May. The award provides a contribution towards the overall costs of travel and subsistence. The awards will be £250 each.

Bursaries for Undergraduate Elective or Vacation Studies
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is offering a number of bursaries to undergraduate students of medicine or dentistry to enable them to work for elective or vacation periods in universities, medical schools, NHS laboratories or research institutes in the United Kingdom. Proposals for work on research projects in any branch of surgery are eligible for consideration.
Preference will be given to applications sponsored by a Member/Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, but quality of project and applicant shall be the over-riding consideration. Students must be affiliates of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. To become an affiliate of the College please go to our Student Affiliate Network page. The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, in association with the Russell Trust is pleased to offer medical students an opportunity to apply for financial support towards their elective in Surgery.
