Abstracts

 

Abstracts are now closed! 

All abstracts are in person at the conference, and you must book a conference ticket to be allowed to deliver your presentation or poster. The deadline to book your conference ticket has been extended to Wednesday 31 August 2022. Please note, if you are purchasing a 1-day rate ticket, you must book the day you are presenting.

Please note, the date of your abstract presentation will be on your acceptance letter. If you are unsure or want more details on your slot, please email rcsedchennai22@rcsed.ac.uk ​

Further Details:

  • Those presenting posters have details of the platform where they must submit their final poster by Monday 19 September.
  • Those presenting oral presentation will be contacted during August with final schedule details and presentation requirements.
  • If you require a visa to travel, and a letter of invite from RCSEd, this will also be provided in August.
  • During the gala dinner on Saturday 8 October, prizes for each specialty will be awarded. You can buy a ticket to the dinner here.
  • There is no financial support for travel and accommodation. We can facilitate accommodation; please contact travel@surgeonsquarter.com for further information.

If you had a draft abstract on the old platform you are encouraged to create an account on the new platform and submit it there. If you have already completed the submission of your abstract(s) you do not need to do anything, your submission has been transferred to the new system.

Please note there is a limit of 3 abstracts per person.

Key Dates

  • November 2021 - Call for abstracts
  • Extended to Friday 10 June 2022, 5pm UK Time - Deadline for abstract submissions
  • 8 July 2022 - Notification of abstract acceptance /rejections
  • 15 August 2022 - Deadline for registration for conference

Guidelines on Presentation

The following are guidelines set by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Deviation from the guidelines may result not only in delays but also in non-acceptance of the submission.

If your abstract is accepted for oral or poster presentation you will need to register for the conference by 8 August 2022. Please note that the College is unable to assist with expenses connected with this meeting.

Abstracts

Abstracts submitted for presentation should not exceed 250 words and should be structured as per the following:

  • Selected topic
  • Title of the abstract
  • Author: please ensure that the presenting author is listed first
  • Background introducing the topic and the problem(s) being addressed
  • This should be followed by the Aim(s)/Objective(s)
  • The description of the methods used should be concise and followed by the results
  • There should be a brief discussion and/or conclusion. 

The text for all abstract submissions should be in 11pt Arial, left aligned. Authors are asked to refrain from any other formatting e.g. indentation.

1 figure and/or table will be accepted.

All abbreviations used must be described fully in the text once. 

Posters

Further details will be posted here soon regarding the format of the posters.

Selection

Notifications of abstracts acceptance will be emailed to the submitting authors by 8 July 2022.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for the winner of the oral presentation and winner of the poster presentation.

Certificates

Certificates of attendance (acknowledging your Poster or Oral presentation) will be awarded on the day of the meeting to the main author/presenter, and only if in attendance. If you nominate a colleague to present your poster or oral on your behalf, they will receive the certificate. Co-authors can receive a letter confirming their contribution upon request.
