The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng), as the surgical bodies currently championing and supporting the work of Surgical Care Practitioners (SCPs), wish to announce that a new bi-collegiate project intended to better support and assist SCPs in being recognised and granted formal regulation by the General Medical Council (GMC).

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, along with the Medical Protection Society, British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin Chairman of the Board, Medical Defence Shield, Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association and the The Doctors’ Association have signed a joint letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care regarding emergency legislation needed to protect healthcare professionals at risk of inappropriate legal challenge when treating COVID-19 patients.

The recent announcement made by the Prime Minister to increase restrictions across many parts of the UK, followed by the First Minister of Scotland effectively putting Scotland into lockdown from the 26th December, has meant that we have had to review our activities in January 2021.
