The Faculty of Dental Trainers was delighted to have representation from its Chair, Professor James Field, at the annual Association for Dental Education (ADEE) conference in Budapest in August. The meeting's theme of 'Evidence and Empathy' mapped well to the current FDT activities such as development of a new set of Educator and Trainer standards, and a refreshed non-technical skills taxonomy. The latter formed the basis for a popular workshop at the conference, where the initial results from the open consultation were explored.
Professor Field also teamed up with Dr Shannu Bhatia from Cardiff University to help deliver the session on Empathetic Leadership to the European Dental Deans and Heads of School. All in all the conference was another excellent opportunity to meet like-minded colleagues in a supportive and productive environment.
Don’t forget that ADEE membership is a membership benefit for the FDT and it takes less than two minutes to set up a user profile on www.adee.org. Membership to ADEE includes opportunities to take part in school visits on the LEADER Programme, access to the European Journal of Dental Education and the Digital Education for Dentistry Resource, greatly reduced registration fees, calls for abstracts, as well as invitations to various educator awards and individual scholarships. By joining the FDT members become part of an association that has 140+ European Dental Schools as active members.
Associate membership of the FDT starts from as little as £18 per month and if you are already a member of RCSEd you can become an Associate, Member or Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Trainers with a FREE subscription. You will only need to pay a one-off joining fee. To learn more about our subscription & election fees please see our website: Join the Faculty of Dental Trainers.
