Whether you join as an Associate, Member, or Fellow, you will become part of a welcoming and supportive community of like-minded colleagues dedicated to advancing dental education and training. Through conferences, online and CPD offerings, in person workshops and a vibrant community of practice, the FDT supports educators in enhancing their teaching, assessment, leadership, and non-technical skills.

FDT Membership Levels
Becoming an Associate of the Faculty demonstrates your interest in dental training.
To join as an Associate, please submit:
- The application form - this should be completed as instructed.
- A letter of support from an Educational Supervisor or comparable professional. This letter should detail your interest and involvement in dental teaching and training.
To become a Member of the Faculty of Dental Trainers you must demonstrate a clear interest and participation in dental teaching, training and education. To be eligible, you must be a qualified dentist, dental nurse, dental hygienist, dental therapist, orthodontic therapist, dental technician or clinical dental technician registered with your relevant competent authority and demonstrate that you are an active and engaged dental trainer.
We will assess your interest and participation in dental training based on the three educational domains of: Teaching & Training Activity; Educational Leadership Activity; Publication, Research & Scholarship Activity. We would expect Membership level applicants to demonstrate activity in a minimum of five areas across at least two of the three educational domains.
To join as a Member, please submit:
- The application form. Evidence should not be duplicated across the domains and areas. Additional curriculum vitae information must not be submitted.
Members are entitled to use the post-nominals MDTFEd.
Fellowship of the Faculty is our highest reward for individuals with a clear commitment to excellence, and a high level of commitment in the field of dental education and training. You must be a qualified dentist, dental nurse, dental hygienist, dental therapist, orthodontic therapist, dental technician or clinical dental technician registered with your relevant regulatory authority. Applicants are expected to demonstrate activity across all three educational domains and significantly over and above the five areas of activity needed for a Membership level application.
To join as a Fellow, please submit:
- The application form. Evidence should not be duplicated across the domains and areas. Additional curriculum vitae information must not be submitted.
- Two supporting structured references – referees should normally be peers who can provide informed comment on your teaching and training activities.
Fellows are entitled to use the post-nominals FDTFEd.
Subscription & Election Fees
Are you an RCSEd Member or Fellow?
If yes, you can become an Associate, Member or Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Trainers with a FREE subscription. You will only need to pay a one-off joining fee.
How to Apply for FDT Membership
To apply, complete the relevant forms and submit them along with your supporting documents to fdt@rcsed.ac.uk. Before applying, please review the Application Guidance carefully to ensure you are applying at the right level and have everything you need.
