RCSEd Response to Dr Bawa Garba High Court Ruling
« View all Press Statements
Today the High Court has announced that Dr Bawa Garba has won her High Court appeal of her indefinite erasure from the medical register.
Dr Bawa Garba’s case and the death of Jack Adcock are truly tragic. A young boy lost his life and nothing can alter this fact. Whilst individual healthcare professionals can make mistakes which have severe consequences it is also the case that systemic pressures and overstretched services can have an impact on their performance and the safety of patient care. The government must address and take steps to ensure that individual doctors are not blamed for systemic failings.
As the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh our focus will remain upon promoting the highest standards of patient safety, training and education.
