Professor Richard Cure Announced as Next Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and Vice President (Dental)

The Faculty of Dental Surgery is pleased to announce that Professor Richard Cure will be the next Dental Dean. Due to the new Governance arrangements in the College, the Dean of FDS also acts as Vice President (Dental).  Professor Cure will take up his position in October 2026 when the current Dean, Professor Grant McIntyre will demit office.

Professor Richard Cure is a registered specialist in Orthodontics and examines for the College for MOrth, MAGDS and MFDS and is currently Dental Vice Dean (UK). He is Director of Orthodontics at Peninsula Dental School, The University of Plymouth, is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Trainers, a Member of the Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare and a General Dental Council (GDC) Education Associate. Richard’s specialist practice is a GDC and University approved outreach training centre; he has previously been Locum Consultant in a Secondary Care unit and has developed training and assessments for Dental Care Professionals, undergraduates and postgraduates. Richard’s PhD is in Clinical Education, where he researched interprofessional education of the orthodontic team. He is a contributing author of the Oxford Dictionary of Dentistry and has published several papers in both orthodontics and clinical education.

I will do my utmost to maintain the highest standards of education and assessment within our College, both nationally and internationally.”

Professor Grant McIntyre, current Dental Dean and Vice President (Dental) said:

“I am delighted that Professor Richard Cure has been appointed as Dean and Vice-President (Dental) Elect. Richard brings a wealth of experience in the College across senior roles and as an examiner and educator within the Faculty of Dental Surgery. His background in specialist practice and in educating the next generation will serve him well as Dean and Vice-President (Dental) in due course.”
