Diploma in Special Care Dentistry (D Spec Care Dent RCSEd)
The examination for the Diploma in Special Care Dentistry is a summative assessment in the field of Special Care Dentistry. It is intended to test the candidate’s applied clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills relevant to the practice of Special Care Dentistry at sub-specialist level (equivalent to Tier 2 as described in the NHS England document ‘Guides for Commissioning dental specialties - Special Care Dentistry, 2015’).

Applications are invited for Examiners for the Diploma in Special Care Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (D Spec Care Dent RCSEd).
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who would like to join an experienced board of examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. This is an ideal opportunity for successful candidates to get involved in the Edinburgh College and to take an active role in the development of their profession.
Applicants must
- Be registered with the General Dental Council and be in good standing
- Be either an Associate, Member, or Fellow of the College in good standing, or be a Member or Fellow of one of the other Royal Colleges in good standing and be willing to affiliate with RCSEd on approval of their application
- Possess a postgraduate qualification in Special Care Dentistry such as the Diploma in Special Care Dentistry (D Spec Care Dent RCSEd), or Membership in Special Care Dentistry
- Have at least 4 years experience of working in Special Care Dentistry
Training for all examiners will be provided online by the College, and all appointed examiners will be expected to contribute to the question bank and attend appropriate further training. Currently we are planning dates for the next block of training sessions. Examiners must attend an examiner training course and observe a diet of the examination before being permitted to examine. Successful applicants will be invited to training on approval of their application.
