Faculty of Surgical Trainers Conference 2026 brings focus, challenge and practical solutions

The Faculty of Surgical Trainers (FST) welcomed delegates to the RCSEd Birmingham Regional Centre on 17 April for its 2026 Conference, Training in Turbulent Times – a day of practical learning, honest discussion and future-focused debate. Around 50 delegates from across the UK gathered to explore how trainers can continue to deliver high-quality surgical education in a changing environment.

RCSEd and COMD Clinical Dental Skills Grand Final 2025/26

The RCSEd UK & COMD Clinical Dental Skills Competition Grand Final took place on Thursday 26 March in Edinburgh, welcoming 16 final-year dental students from across the UK and Ireland. Each finalist represented the highest-performing student from their respective dental school, making reaching the final an outstanding achievement in itself.

Surgeons' Hall Museums Launches Oral History Project to Preserve Women’s Voices in Surgery

Surgeons' Hall Museums has announced an Oral History Project designed to preserve voices that might otherwise be lost to time. The project draws inspiration from one of those rare accounts: the autobiography of Caroline Doig, the first woman elected to RCSEd Council.

RCSEd Marks Second Dental-Only Diploma Ceremony in College History

The 18th and final Diploma Ceremony for 2025 on 16 December was a special occasion for the Faculty of Dental Surgery. For the second time in the history of the College, all of the diplomates receiving their awards were from the Faculty of Dental Surgery. The only other occasion this occurred was in 2022, as part of the 40th year celebrations of the founding of the Faculty.

The IPD UK Induction for International Doctors 2026

The International Postgraduate Deanery (IPD) has been hosting Induction Days for international trainees since 2019. Held twice a year, these two-day programmes provide valuable opportunities for trainees to build social networks within the medical field while gaining essential insights into working in the UK. “The best-laid schemes of mice and men often go awry” is a quote from the poem 'To a Mouse', written by Robert Burns, the Scottish national poet and lyricist from the 18th century. Transforming Surgical Safety Across Nepal: The Surgery Shield Project

The Surgery Shield Project, funded by RCSEd’s Global CARE, trained 533 healthcare professionals across Nepal to reduce surgical site infections. Knowledge scores rose from 55% to 85%, with improved practices and confidence. Inclusive and low-cost, the project promoted gender equity and created a scalable model for safer surgery in resource-limited settings.
