FDS in Malaysia from 31 July to 2 August 2026 for the Part 2 MFDS Exam

The Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) has continued to strengthen its international partnerships and engagement in Malaysia, following a successful visit that included an MFDS examination, university meetings and information sessions for dental professionals.

FDS held a highly successful Part 2 MFDS examination at International Medical University (IMU) from 31 July to 2 August, with 77 candidates taking part. The examination was led by Shan Ghandi, MFDS Board Chair, with the College’s Exams team, Nicola Bruce and Mollie Taylor, expertly supported by Professor Liang Lin Seow and the IMU administration team to ensure the smooth running of the examination.

FDS is grateful to IMU for its continued support in facilitating Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh examination diets in Malaysia.

On 3 August, FDS representatives met with colleagues from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and SEGi University to explore opportunities for further collaboration between the Faculty and the universities.

Professor Cure and Mr McLaughlin were supported during the meetings by Delaila Abdullah, International Office Administrator; Sheida Abd Lah, Manager, RCSEd International Office; and Dr Chong Ai, International Dental Ambassador.

The afternoon saw FDS host a series of information sessions, beginning with a one-hour introduction to the Faculty, 'What It Is and What It Does’, delivered jointly by Professor Cure and Mr McLaughlin.

This was followed by two specialist two-hour workshops focusing on the College’s Orthodontic and Restorative examinations, covering Endodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry. The sessions explored the current examination landscape, as well as forthcoming changes to MFDS and DSFE.

A total of 89 delegates registered for the sessions, including current specialty trainees from Malaysia and Egypt. The Faculty was also pleased to welcome representatives from the Malaysian Dental Council and Malaysian Dental Association.

Their participation provided a valuable opportunity for Professor Cure and Mr McLaughlin to engage in constructive discussions around issues relevant to the Dental Faculty’s continued presence and development in Malaysia.

The visit highlighted the strength of FDS’s existing relationships in Malaysia, while providing valuable opportunities to develop new partnerships and engage directly with the wider dental community.
