Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer and fourth cause of cancer mortality globally. Over one million cases of Gastric Cancer were diagnosed in 2020.  Gastrectomy with radical lymphadenectmy is the mainstay of curative treatment modality for non-metastatic GC.  In this webinar, we will share the current evidence of laparoscopic gasterectomy for gastric cancer, techniques, tips and tricks.


In this webinar, we hope to give an overview of gastric cancer, updates on laparoscopic gastrectomy with radical lymphadenectomy for gastric cancers and surgical techniques, tips and tricks.

Dr. Arul Immanuel MD FRCS (Chair) 

Dr. Arul Immanuel is a Consultant in General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery and Head of Department of the Northern Oesophago-Gastric Unit, Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne. He has a fellowship from the Upper Gastrointestinal and Hepato-Pancreatic and Biliary Unit at the Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, Australia (2009-2010 and further training in minimally invasive techniques including robotic surgery from Japan, Hong Kong, China, Netherlands and Germany. His expertise includes the  surgical management of benign and malignant oesophago-gastric conditions and his unit currently performs the most number of robotic oesophago-gastric resections in the United Kingdom. He has numerous publications in prestigious journals such as JAMA Surgery and Annals of Surgical Oncology to name a few.

Mr. Vittal Rao MS, MD, MFSTEd, FRCS (Co-Chair)

Mr. Vittal Rao is a Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon at the University Hospital of North Midlands, Stoke-on-Trent, England.  His surgical practice encompasses complex benign Upper GI surgery, primary and complex revision bariatric surgery and emergency surgery. He is a honorary clinical lecturer at the University of Keele and is also a Regional Surgical Advisor and member of the Surgical Speciality Board of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is passionate about surgical education and training and enhancing patient safety. He has presented over 100 abstracts in various national and international conferences and has published over 25 papers in peer reviewed journals.

Professor Vikram Kate MS, FRCS (Eng.), FRCS (Ed.),  FRCS(Glasg.), Ph.D (Surg. Gastro.), MAMS, FIMSA, MASCRS, FACS, FACG, FFSTEd (Co-Chair)

Professor Vikram Kate, is a Senior Consultant and Professor of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) Pondicherry, India, a tertiary care level institute. He has more than 175 publications and 45 chapters in reputed textbooks of surgery, surgical gastroenterology and scientific writing. His areas of interest include corrosive injuries, H. pylori infection and ERAS in Upper GI. Professor Kate is a Member of the Surgical Speciality Board-General Surgery of  the RCSEd, a Member of the Research Committee of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT), USA, and the “Inaugural President” of the Indian Chapter of the SSAT, USA (2021-22). He is the Past National President of the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology. Apart from being a Fellow of three Royal Colleges, he is a  Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Gastroenterology and the  Faculty of Surgical Trainers of Edinburgh. He is also an Intercollegiate Examiner for the Royal Colleges.

Mr Aung Myint Oo MBBS, MMed (Surgery),MCI, FRCSEd, FAMS, FACS (Speaker)

​Mr Aung Myint Oo a Senior Consultant in General, Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery and an Assistant Chief Medical Informatic Officer at Tan Tock Seng Hospital Singapore.  He is also a clinical senior lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and an adjunct senior lecturer with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. He is Chairman of the Chapter of General Surgeons, College of Surgeons, Singapore and a member of the General Surgery Surgical Speciality Board of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
