The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) has announced the appointment of its new Director of Heritage who will oversee one of the world’s foremost collections of surgical artefacts and information.

Chanté St Clair Inglis will play a pivotal role in the leadership and strategic planning across the College’s heritage collection, including the prestigious Surgeons Hall Museums.

Professor Rowan Parks, President of RCSEd, said:

We are delighted to announce Chanté St Clair Inglis as the College's new Director of Heritage.

With her extensive experience and proven leadership in the heritage field, Chanté brings a wealth of knowledge and I have no doubt that she will achieve fantastic heights in her new role.

This appointment marks an exciting new chapter in our ongoing commitment to preserving and sharing the rich legacy of surgical history.

Surgeons Hall Museums, which houses collections of anatomical specimens and surgical artefacts, is a major medical museum in Scotland, and one of Edinburgh's many tourist attractions.

It is home to a number of fascinating exhibits that trace key dates in Scotland’s surgical advances. Among the highlights are a filmic reconstruction of the first public dissection done in Scotland and one of the largest and most historic pathology collections in the world.

With over 15 years of distinguished leadership in the heritage field, Chanté will bring a wealth of experience in developing and sharing collections of international significance to a diverse audience.

In her most recent role as Head of Collections Services at National Museums Scotland, Chanté led a team of more than 50 specialists across a range of functions including conservation, collections care and management, library and archives, analytical science, as well as collections data and digitisation.

 

 

Commenting on her new role, Chanté said:

I am truly honoured to have been given such a tremendous opportunity and to be able to offer my expertise to the preservation and promotion of such rich and globally significant heritage.

I look forward to working with the team and partners to further advance the College's vitally important work in the field of surgical history.
