The Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare (FRRHH) are looking forward to their next adventure as they prepare to head to the Highlands of Scotland for the Rethinking Remote Conference hosted by the Scottish Rural Health Partnership on 28 - 29 April.
Located in the beautiful town of Aviemore, Rethinking Remote 2022 is set to be a key event in the remote and rural healthcare calendar. With motivating presentations from influential speakers to interdisciplinary workshops, and oral presentations this will be an impactful event for all who are passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of those living in remote and rural communities. This will be an opportunity to network, share best practice and hear from experts around the world.
Leaders such as Professor David Lowe, Clinical Director for Health Innovation at Scottish Government and Dr Sarah Chalmers, Director Centre for Remote and Rural Healthcare in Australia are amongst the line-up of distinguished guest speakers. The Faculty are pleased to be supporting the conference which has been running for three years and in addition to exhibiting will be delivering a special workshop on the FRRHH Capabilities Framework. This valuable piece of work will benefit the career of remote, rural and humanitarian healthcare professionals globally.
Also, on the programme, FRRHH’s very own Chair, Dr Rikard Moen will be speaking on Challenges, Governance & Capabilities for Health Practitioners in Remote, Austere and Conflict Zones.
Dr Rikard gives an insight of what attendees can expect from the conference,
The conference has brought together world leading experts in the field of remote and rural health and the delivery of wellbeing in these remote, challenging, and complex environments. There are many complexities in the delivery of high-quality health in these often-difficult health settings from both an access to healthcare and providing the highest standard of clinical delivery with limited resources in demanding locations. There are many aspects to the delivery of the highest standard healthcare in these situations from developing highly competent healthcare practitioners, providing the appropriate equipment that is fit for purpose in challenging environments, the criticality of technology including telemedicine, workable emergency response plans including case escalations and appropriate specialist supervision like ‘over the shoulder coaching’, safe and secure health facilities, all underpinned by robust clinical governance and quality processes.
Providing and delivering safe, high standard healthcare in remote and rural locations for a remote healthcare practitioner is the most challenging and scary form of health practice to be involved in, as usually the healthcare practitioner is very isolated both geographically and professionally, with no ambulance available within a few minutes, and no operating theatre or anaesthetist for many hundreds if not thousands of miles.
An understanding and ongoing learning for the settings underpins the scope of this excellent conference with an important focus also on innovation and using new equipment or technology to assist everyone practising and delivering remotely. There is a compelling range of international speakers and topics such as, emergency management and pre-hospital care, education and professional support and new this year disaster planning and pandemics. This conference ties in directly with the values and objectives of the Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare and we are very proud to be sponsors, to provide speakers, and to fully support this conference and its aims.
We at the Faculty very much look forward to meeting our members and associated colleagues. As well as the high standard of academic rigor and presentations there will also be the opportunity for social engagements and networking after a difficult and lonely two years of COVID. For the adventurous, there is an option to enjoy the amazing location of Aviemore and venture either by foot or bicycle onto the stunning Cairngorm mountains. It doesn’t get much better than that!
