About the Faculty of Dental Trainers

What is the Faculty of Dental Trainers

The Faculty of Dental Trainers (FDT) is the professional home for dental educators and trainers across the entire dental team. Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to enhance the quality of patient care globally through excellence in teaching, training, and education.

As the first Faculty of its kind in the UK, membership of the FDT is recognised as a mark of professional distinction for those committed to developing the current and future dental workforce. Membership is open to all members of the dental team involved in education and training, whether practising in the UK or internationally.

The FDT celebrates and recognises excellence in dental education, rewarding achievement, encouraging innovation and curiosity, and supporting professional development at every stage of your career. Members benefit from access to expert guidance, educational resources, networking opportunities, and a vibrant community of educators who share a passion for high-quality training and lifelong learning.

We recognise the rich diversity of the dental education workforce, spanning a wide range of healthcare settings, educational institutions, and training environments. We view this diversity as one of our greatest strengths. Whether you join as an Associate, Member, or Fellow, you will become part of a welcoming and supportive community of like-minded colleagues dedicated to advancing dental education and improving patient outcomes.

Membership of the FDT is a recognition of your commitment to education and training. It provides support, professional recognition, and opportunities for career progression, underpinned by the wider Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh's belief that exceptional training is fundamental to delivering the highest standards of patient care
