Respiratory Cancer and Airway Inflammation Treatment

Lung Cancer is one of the most common cancers globally, with high morbidity and mortality rates if not diagnosed and treated early. This session will deal with the modern management of this disease, and optimal methods of treatment, covered by RCSEd Vice-President, Mr Pala Rajesh. Secondly, the webinar will also uncover multi-modality treatment of airway inflammation and novel techniques for the holistic management of “one airway”, presented by Ms Cat Evans and Prof B Nirmal Kumar. Mr Pala Rajesh
Mr Pala Rajesh is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. His interests are in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, surgical training and education. He set up the Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery service in the Regional Department of Thoracic Surgery which is now a renowned centre for training in the UK. He is the lead examiner of the Joint Surgical Fellowship examinations in cardiothoracic surgery in Asia. He’s been on Council 2012-17 and served on several committees. He is a Member of Council in the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Professor Nirmal Kumar
Professor Nirmal Kumar is President for ENT UK and Consultant ENT surgeon at WWL Teaching NHS Foundation Trust where he is also Director of Medical Education. Regionally, he leads the ENT North West research network (GM CRN) for NIHR in addition to being Honorary Clinical Professor at Edge Hill University Medical School. He is FRCS (ORL) examiner of the Royal College of Surgeons, Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers Edinburgh, Fellow of the Indian Academy of ORL-HNS, and Fellow of Academy of Medical Educators. He is MD, MCh, PhD examiner for several Universities in the UK and abroad, delivered invited and key note lectures around the world and has published extensively in the medical literature.
Miss Catrin Evans
Cat Evans completed medical school training at the University of Liverpool and continued Foundation training within the Mersey deanery. It was during Foundation training that she had her first opportunity to develop an interest in ENT and to continue this as a clinical fellow the following year. She then completed Core Surgical training in Yorkshire and was fortunate enough to complete time within ENT and Paediatric Surgery. She is now about to begin a Masters in Otolaryngology. Her goal is to develop her passion for ENT through speciality training and to specialise in paediatric ENT in the future in order to combine her love of working with children and ENT.
Dr Sunil Kumar (Moderator)
Dr Sunil Kumar is a Senior Consultant and former HOD Surgery in Tata Main Hospital, Jamshedpur, India, and an FRCS/MRCS examiner for the College. In 2015, he was awarded the Excellence in Medical Education prize from India’s National Board of Examinations.
Prof (Dr) Arnab Gupta (Moderator)
Prof (Dr) Arnab Gupta is Medical Director and Consultant Surgical Oncologist at the Department of Surgical Oncology at Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute, Thakurpukur, Kolkata. He is the current President of the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology (IASO) and a member of Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Surgical Oncology (IJSO). Prof Gupta is an examiner for both the MRCSI and DNB Surgical Oncology examinations.
