The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) uses a range of digital channels to engage with its members and the wider healthcare community. We regularly review these platforms to ensure they remain effective, appropriate and aligned with the values of the College.
Following a review of the changes to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), RCSEd has taken the decision to stop posting on the platform.
We will continue to communicate and grow our presence across our other social media channels and encourage you to follow and engage with us on:
RCSEd will continue to review its digital channels to ensure we communicate with its members and followers in a way that reflects its values and Code of Conduct.

Frequently asked questions
We’ve reviewed how effective the platform currently is for reaching and engaging our audiences. On balance, we feel our time and effort can be better focused on other channels that align more closely with our communications priorities.
The account will remain online for now as an archive of previous content. We won’t be posting any more, and the account will not be actively monitored for replies or direct messages.
We’ll prioritise the channels where we’re currently seeing the strongest engagement, including our website, email communications, and other social platforms (see links above). We’ll also continue to connect with communities through events and direct outreach.
Where possible, we’ll encourage people to contact us through our website or official email channels instead. This helps ensure enquiries are seen and responded to reliably.
We’re leaving the account in place so people who still look for us on X can easily find where to follow or contact us elsewhere. Keeping it open with a pinned message allows us to redirect audiences to our active channels, while making clear that we’re no longer posting there regularly.
Volunteers are free to use their personal social media as they wish. If referring to the College, we just ask that volunteers follow our usual guidance on representing the organisation and sharing accurate information.
We’ve chosen not to make a formal statement because we don’t want the change to become the focus of public discussion. Instead, we’re simply directing people to the channels where we are active, which keeps the emphasis on our work rather than on the platform itself.
Campaigns and events will continue as planned, but promotion will happen through different channels. Communications teams will ensure volunteers have the information they need to help share and support these activities.
The decision was made following internal discussion about communications priorities and resources. We always welcome feedback from volunteers and will continue to review our approach over time.
