The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh disburses a number of grants each year to fund research and education for our members and fellows. Grant awardees are selected through open applications, which are scored by a panel of specialist academics and clinicians, and ratified by the Research Committee. Grants provide seed funding for new research, funding for medical projects outside of research (e.g., digital education resource projects), and support educational development. Depending on the grant, funds may be disbursed to a host institution, similarly to a research fellowship, or to the individual awardee.

RCSEd Grant PlatformGlobal CARE Grants: Projects in Low and Middle-Income Countries
Deadline: 1 April 2026
Up to £3,000 for Small Global CARE Grants or up to £10,000 for large Global CARE Grants. Applicants from the UK and abroad can apply for funding for projects that are engaged in improving access to surgical and dental care in low and middle-income countries.

FST - ASME Educational Research Grant
Deadline: 28 May 2026
RCSEd is delighted to relaunch its partnership with ASME, with the newly improved FST – ASME Education Research Grant, which aims to support research that focuses on surgical education and training that will lead to a direct improvement in surgical education or training practices.
Applications are welcomed from Members and Fellows of RCSEd and/or ASME, who are Core or Specialist Trainees, or young consultants (Within 5 years of their first appointment). LEDs and SAS Doctors are also invited to apply.
Up to £3000 of funding will be available along with a 12-month ASME individual membership to one successful applicant.

RCSEd – British Orthodontic Society Research Grant

RCSEd is delighted to announce a new partnership with the British Orthodontic Society and the establishment of the RCSEd - BOS Research Grant.
The grant intends to support those undertaking a research project in the field of Orthodontics with up to £10,000 of funding available for one year.
Applications are welcome from pre-doctoral Orthodontists who are Members or Fellows of RCSEd and/or BOS and should be submitted online by 30 May 2025.

Tom Bereznicki Dental Educational Grant

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s dental faculty are proud to present the Tom Bereznicki Dental Education Grant, which has been made possible by the generous donation of Tom Bereznicki.
The Grant will support educational endeavours for individuals who are Affiliates, Members and Fellows of the Dental Faculty and/or the Faculty of Dental Trainers.
Up to £3,000 will be available to defray expenses for those undertaking an appropriate educational qualification.
