Cardiothoracic Immersion Programme for Medical Students
RCSEd in collaboration with Terumo Aortic, are proud to support a number of cardiothoracic placements to senior medical students in UK universities. The successful applications will work for 2-4 weeks under the supervision of consultant surgeons at James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough, Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, University Hospitals Bristol and other UK cardiothoracic centres. Each placement will offer successful applicants supervised time in the operating theatre, opportunity to shadow the day-to-day activities of trainees, consultants and allied clinicians and professionals in the department. Cardiothoracic surgery is one of the smallest surgical specialties but offers some of the most exciting and varied opportunities in which to practice medicine and surgery, as such RCSEd are delighted to offer affiliate medical students this opportunity.

Coronation Commonwealth Bursary
The Coronation Commonwealth Bursary was created in honour of the coronation of King Charles III which took place on 6 May 2023 and aims to provide financial assistance to outstanding individuals from Commonwealth countries to pursue an exam or a course at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Applicants must be from one and living in a Commonwealth Country outside of the UK.
Successful applicants will receive of up to £2,000 in funding to cover expenses related to their studies.

RCSEd - ASI Bursary
RCSEd is delighted to announce applications are open for the new RCSEd - ASI Bursary. The establishment of this bursary marks a significant milestone in the long standing partnership between RCSEd and the Association of Surgeons India.
The RCSEd- ASI bursary will provide two successful applicants the opportunity to attend a free ASI course in Kolkata, along with up to £1000 each for travel, accommodation and subsistence.
Applications are welcome from Members of RCSEd, or those on IPD training programmes, who are ST3 and above, and able to demonstrate a commitment to global surgery.

Binks Bursary for Medical Student Electives
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, in association with the Binks Trust, offers medical students an opportunity to apply for financial support, of up to £250, towards their elective abroad in surgery.
Applications are open to UK and International medical students, who are enrolled in universities in the UK and Republic of Ireland undertaking approved surgical electives abroad. Students must be affiliates of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in good standing.

Binks Bursary for Medical Student Electives in Africa
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is offering a number of bursaries for elective placements in Africa.
The elective need not necessarily be in a surgical specific unit, but priority may be given to students demonstrating an interest in surgery.
The bursary will comprise a single payment of up to £500 which can be used towards travel and accommodation costs, or other expenses involved with the placement such as vaccinations and visas.

The Maisels Student Immersion Programme and Bursary in Robotic Surgery
RCSEd is honoured to announce that applications are now open for the new Maisels Student Immersion Programme and Bursary in Robotic Surgery. This new programme aims to support aspiring surgeons by providing equitable access to observership and mentorship opportunities.
One successful applicant will be awarded the opportunity to attend a 2-week immersion placement under the supervision of robotic surgery experts in the summer of their fourth year of medical school, alongside the support of a £350 bursary.
Applicants should be enrolled in a medical school within the UK or the Republic of Ireland, be an Affiliate of RCSEd and be able to demonstrate a proven interest in Robotic Surgery.
The establishment of this bursary has been made possible by the generosity of the Maisels family, in honour of Mr David Maisels, FRCSEd.

The Maisels Immersion Programme and Bursary in Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery
RCSEd is honoured to announce that applications are now open for the new Maisels Student Immersion Programme and Bursary in Reconstructive and Robotic Surgery. This new programme aims to support aspiring surgeons by providing equitable access to observership and mentorship opportunities.
One successful applicant will be awarded the opportunity to attend a 2-week immersion placement under the supervision of leading Reconstructive and PLastic Surgeons in the summer of their fourth year of medical school, alongside the support of a £350 bursary.
Applicants should be enrolled in a medical school within the UK or the Republic of Ireland, be an Affiliate of RCSEd and be able to demonstrate a proven interest in Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery.
