On 21 January 2026, the College hosted the first meeting of the Hunter-Doig Women in Surgery Group, established to champion gender equity in surgery through evidence-based initiatives, advocacy, and support. Congratulation to all members of the group for their appointment, and to its inaugural Chair Helene Stevenson.

The representation of women in surgery continues to lag behind that of women in the medical workforce overall, and as women continues to face specific challenges in their daily practice. The Hunter-Doig group will work to address these systemic barriers and promote inclusive practice that benefit non only women, but the surgical community overall.

We will soon share more information about the Group's work and how you can contribute to fighting inequalities in surgery and dentistry.
