The RCSEd Core Trainee Forum (CTF) is proud to present their Alternative pathways in Surgery Conference taking place in Salford on Sunday 21 September. The aim of the conference is to highlight alternative pathways to higher surgical training currently available in the UK.
The CTF strongly advocates for doctors who seek alternative routes to higher surgical specialty training. In recent years, with changes to the training landscape there is a growing demand for opportunities along this training route.
There also is trend for some doctors preferentially opting for locally employed schemes rather than Core Surgical Training (CST). This conference is aimed at highlighting the process of obtaining a Certification of Readiness to Entre Higher Surgical Training (CREHST), the opportunities available, and providing first-hand accounts of entering higher specialty training without completing CST.
At this conference there will be opportunity for attendees to participate in Q&A to debunk and clarify on taking an alternative pathway. Starting with a number of short talks by select faculty, where delegates will be able to hear from consultants that run locally employed programmes, there will be break out sessions that will be speciality base for participation in small “coffee, cake, chat” which will be an excellent opportunity for delegates to find out about this type of training pathway from those with first-hand experience.
