Mr James Tomlinson

Faculty Chair

James is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon in a major trauma centre (Sheffield, UK). His clinical practice covers all aspects of emergency and elective adult spine surgery.

Mr Pragnesh Bhatt

Deputy Chair

Mr Pragnesh Bhatt qualified as a neurosurgeon in 1987 after training in India and the UK. Currently a consultant neurosurgeon at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, he has a particular interest in complex spinal surgery in both adults and children leading the multidisciplinary team for degenerative spinal conditions.

Mr Simon Fleming

Simon Fleming is a Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist surgeon, and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland. He holds Fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS Tr&Orth), and a PhD in Medical Education.

Mr Manoj Kumar

Manoj is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Associate Director of Medical Education (Surgery). He is Education Lead for the Patient Safety Committee, a member of the General Surgery Surgical Specialty Board and Convenor and Faculty for the Non-Technical Skills for Surgeons (NOTSS) course.

Ms Rhea Liang

A/Prof. Rhea Liang is a general and breast surgeon on the Gold Coast of Australia, medical educator, and MD Curriculum Lead at Bond University. She researches and advocates in breast cancer, medical education, diversity, and workplace culture. Rhea is a surgical trainer and CCRISP course director.

Miss McKenzie is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, appointed in 2011, with a longstanding commitment to surgical education and training the next generation of surgeons.

Professor Emad S B Saweeres

Executive Committee Member

Professor Saweeres is the Chairman of the Orthopaedic Advisory Committee at the General Organisation for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes, in Egypt. He qualified, trained and practiced in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UK (Oswestry/Stoke Rotation).

Dean of Education

Professor Jon Lund is RCSEd Dean of Education, Head of the Academic Department of Surgery at the University of Nottingham, and Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Royal Derby Hospital. He previously served as Chair of the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST).

Professor Robin Paton

College Vice President

Professor Robin Paton is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon (with a special interest in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery) and was first elected to the council in 2016. He holds an Honorary Chair at the Medical School at UCLAN and was awarded the King James IV Professorship from the college in 2016.
