A structured, capability-based approach to defining, supporting and strengthening healthcare practice under constraint.
The Faculty of Remote, Rural & Humanitarian Healthcare (FRRHH) has published its Capabilities Framework, a new resource designed to define, support and strengthen healthcare practice in the world's most demanding environments.
Healthcare delivered in remote, rural and humanitarian settings requires professionals to work beyond the assumptions of fully resourced systems. The Framework addresses this directly, providing a structured approach for clinicians and non-clinical professionals alike: those who provide care, enable it technically, lead services, or shape systems.
The Framework is built around three domains — Individual Professional Capabilities, Analysing and Overcoming Constraints, and Clinical, Technical and Administrative Readiness — and four progressive tiers, from Safe Practitioner through to Systems Architect. It supports professional development, membership and fellowship assessment, education and accreditation, workforce planning, and service design.

The Framework is designed for clinicians and non-clinical professionals: those who provide care directly, enable it technically or shape systems.
