Call for Nominations for Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (Vice President (Dental)) and Vice Dean FDS (International)

In accordance with the updated RCSEd Governance Structure, the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) also acts as Vice President (Dental) of RCSEd. This leadership position carrying two titles, plays a crucial role within FDS, RCSEd and the wider dental sector. The Dean (Vice President (Dental)), alongside a dedicated office holder team, represents the interests of dentistry and the dental specialties, leading on strategy, policy and advocacy, and upholding the highest standards of dental surgery through RCSEd’s examinations, education professional activity. Furthermore, the Dean (Vice President (Dental)) is a Trustee of RCSEd, making this a key decision-making role within the organisation.

The position of Vice Dean (International) is suitable for individuals who would like to play a key strategic role within FDS as a Member of Dental Executive, a key member of Dental Council and a close advisor to the Dean. It is an ideal opportunity for an individual seeking a more senior role in FDS. The Vice Dean (International) will work alongside the Vice Dean (UK) as a senior office holder within FDS.

The Faculty of Dental Surgery is now seeking nominations for Dean (Vice President (Dental)) and Vice Dean (International). Both positions serve a term of office of three years.

Applicants must be current or former members of Dental Council of RCSEd, a FDS Fellow in good standing and in good standing with the GDC or their local regulator. 

These are elected positions with the nominees being elected by the current members of RCSEd Dental Council. These positions are on a voluntary basis with expenses reimbursed and include support for travel and accommodation as needed. 

The estimated time commitment for the Vice President (Dental) is around three days a week or equivalent to six sessions. 

The estimated time commitment for the Vice Dean position is 33 days per annum. 

These positions are ideally suited to individuals who are committed to giving back to the dental profession and playing a key role in supporting and engaging with our diverse, friendly and committed community of practice.
