The President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), Dr Clare McNaught, has recently returned from a successful visit to Malaysia. This was the first international visit planned following her appointment as President, reflecting the College’s continued commitment to strengthening professional collaboration in the region.
During her visit, the President attended the MRCS Part B OSCE examination held at the new Medical Academies of Malaysia in Putrajaya. The modern facility, located in the administrative capital, has recently become a new examination centre, hosting approximately 200 candidates from the region and beyond. The successful delivery of the examination highlights both growing demand and the College’s ongoing role in supporting assessment and professional development internationally.
Dr McNaught also paid a visit to the Director General of Health Malaysia, Datuk Dr Mahathar Abd Wahab, and his team. Discussions focused on the College's longstanding partnership with Malaysia and its continued commitment to upholding high standards in surgical and dental practices, as well as opportunities for further collaboration in training, education, and global initiatives.
The visit reaffirmed the strong relationship between the College and healthcare institutions in Malaysia and underscored a shared commitment to advancing surgical excellence and patient care in the region.
The College first opened an office in Kuala Lumpur in 2018, and in 2025, moved to a new location in Putrajaya. The office acts as a hub for the many activities carried out by the College in ASEAN countries and beyond, and provides a first point of contact for the membership in the region.
