Year after year, the College invests hundreds of thousands of pounds in pioneering surgical research and the people behind this progress, helping us in achieving our mission of improved outcomes for patients globally.
From pump priming grants, which provide a catalyst for innovation, to world-leading research professorships that create ground-breaking change, we invest in science that will ultimately save lives.
The College, and our successes, are only possible because of our community of surgeons and dentists, from those in medical school, to those who are leaders in their field, we invest in our community at every career stage by helping them gain access to education, training and skills opportunities that would otherwise have been unavailable to them. This supports facilitates learning and the sharing of innovations in surgical practice that imbue the next generation with skills and techniques that have life-changing consequences for their patients.

Faced with rising costs and ever greater demand, we are committed to investing in surgical research, and individuals, but face real challenges in terms of the volume we can support. By investing in our work, you will contribute to innovative, groundbreaking research and the next generation of surgeons, who will pave the way to better surgical outcomes for all.

How RCSEd is Shaping the Future
[The grant] has been invaluable in making our research, analysing genetic architecture of rectal prolapses, possible. As healthcare professionals know, rectal prolapse is a condition which causes a major impact on individuals’ quality of life. Despite this, obtaining funding for research into rectal prolapse and other disorders of the pelvic floor very challenging making the help of RCSEd and Guts UK so vital. The technology required to obtain rich, high quality genetic data remans expensive, but the support provided by this grant has made this possible. In a matter of months, we have from a ‘concept’ to having recruited almost our whole target participant cohort size.
