RCSEd Response to Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Bill

From today, 13 September 2018, the maximum sentence for attacks on Emergency Service workers will double from six to twelve months.
This will include paramedics, nurses and other emergency clinicians as well as prison officers and fire fighters. RCSEd has supported this Bill and is pleased to see it covers a wide range of front line staff.
Professor David Lockey, Chairman of RCSEd’s Faculty of Prehospital Care, said:
“We are delighted that this Bill has been enacted. Emergency workers should all be able to care for patients without ever fearing for their own or colleagues safety and it is hoped that stronger sentences for those who assault front line clinicians will act as a deterrent in the future and protect NHS staff”.
