The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh recognises WhatsApp as a useful tool for quick, real time communication between volunteer groups, particularly when sharing information or coordinating while travelling. However, its use carries data protection and information security risks. This guidance has been approved by the RCSEd Information Governance Group.
The RCSEd WhatsApp Charter provides guidance on the appropriate, safe and professional use of WhatsApp for College-related activity.
It sets out clear expectations to ensure communication remains respectful, secure and aligned with data protection requirements.
