This week RCSEd President, Professor Rowan Parks, with past President, Professor Michael Griffin, and past Vice-President, Mr Pala Rajesh, visited Namibia to meet with the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). The College would like to congratulate the new President-Elect of COSECSA, Dr Fualal Jane Odubu; Secretary General, Professor Abebe, and Registrar, Professor Eric Borgstein, on their new roles. During the visit they discussed future collaborative projects between our Colleges and the existing work we have completed in recent years through our Global Surgery Foundation.
During the COSECSA graduation ceremony, Professor Tom Weiser, the Rahima Dawood Traveling Fellow delivered a fascinating lecture of ‘Surgery 5.0’ and was awarded the RCSEd Medal.
The College was delighted to be joined by Judith James and family who spoke about her late husband, Professor Jimmy James (FRCSEd 1972). To commemorate Professor James’ outstanding commitment to international healthcare, Mrs James has generously established a memorial medal to be awarded to the highest scoring candidate in the COSECSA plastic surgery exam. We are extremely grateful to the James family for supporting this initiative.
COSECSA has a critical role in international healthcare and education and we look forward to working on further collaborative projects with COSECSA in the future.
