Scaling Non-Technical Surgical Skills Training Rwanda
GSF has undertaken a partnership with Harvard University, the Rwandan Surgical Society (RSS) and Johnson and Johnson to improve surgical safety. This is pivotal in a critically understaffed healthcare service, with just 44 general surgeons supporting a population of 11.9 million in 2016.
We will be supporting general practitioners, anaesthesia technicians and theatre nurses to be trained in the non-technical surgical skills that are vital to patient safety. Not only is this proven to have a positive influence on performance; it is also crucial to successful patient handover between healthcare professionals.
This will be delivered through a pre-existing RSS outreach training programme, meaning that every district hospital in Rwanda will benefit from the training.
