In a landmark collaboration aimed at addressing the critical shortage of skilled surgical care in conflict and disaster zones, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is teaming up with the David Nott Foundation (DNF) to later this year host their Hostile Environment Surgical Training UK (HEST-UK) course at the College in Edinburgh.

2024 Surgical Skills Competition Winners Announced!
The Surgical Skills Competition Grand Final took place at the College on Saturday 16 March. Students from 40 medical schools across the UK came together for a friendly competition to test their surgical skills.

The newly formed Intercollegiate Surgical Education Committee for SAS, LED, and Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (ISECSN) has launched a website to support the educational development of SAS Grades and those in related grades.

RCSEd Concerns over UK Government Potential Removal of Information on Number of Medical and Healthcare Professionals to be Trained over Next Decade

We are concerned over reports that the UK Government is looking at removing information on the number of medical and healthcare professionals it plans to train over the next decade. Given the high number of NHS staff vacancies and unprecedented demand on services, we urgently need a funded workforce plan with numbers.

Joint Statement From Surgical Organisations on Result of BMA Ballot for Junior Doctor Strike Action in England

This week the BMA’s UK Junior Doctors Committee announced the result of their ballot on junior doctor industrial action in England. Almost 37,000 votes were cast and 98% of those voted in favour of industrial action.
