RCSEd Voices Concerns over SCPs Performing High-Risk Surgery
As an organisation focused on improving standards of surgical care and patient outcomes, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is extremely concerned about the recent publication in the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) (“Laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed by a surgical care practitioner: a review of outcomes”) detailing the experience of a Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) performing laparoscopic cholecystectomies.
In a landmark collaboration aimed at addressing the critical shortage of skilled surgical care in conflict and disaster zones, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is teaming up with the David Nott Foundation (DNF) to later this year host their Hostile Environment Surgical Training UK (HEST-UK) course at the College in Edinburgh.
Nominations Open for Trainee member of Council 2024
Nominations are invited for this key opportunity for the opinion of our Trainee membership to influence College policy in the future on a wide range of issues including training, education, assessment and future service delivery. The Trainee member of Council also co-chairs the Trainee Committee during their term of office.

The National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD) has published its latest report. Based on data from England and Wales, the report encompasses both 2020 and 2021 data and presents how current care ‘since COVID-19’ compares with the baseline of 2019 ‘before COVID-19’.
