Over the summer the policy team has been very busy working across the four nations of the UK. We have written to the new Secretary of State Sajid Javid and his newly appointed counterparts in Scotland, Humza Yousaf, and Wales, Eluned Morgan, to congratulate them on their new roles and to introduce the College. We also wrote to Amanda Pritchard, the new CEO of NHS England. All have expressed a wish to work well with the College.

We have submitted the College’s response to HEE’s Long-Term Strategic Framework for Health and Social Care Workforce Planning consultation. Additionally we have responded to the Northern Irish Department of Health’s consultation on a newly proposed statutory duty of candour and the Welsh Senedd’s Health and Social Care Committee’s consultation on their priorities for this legislative session, focusing on supporting staff mental health and wellbeing and on tackling health inequalities. We have submitted initial thoughts and are working on a full response to the House of Commons Health and Social Care Select Committee inquiry on cancer services reform and also have a workstream on sustainability in surgery ahead of the upcoming COP26 summit.

Our work is ongoing so if you would like to feed into any of these discussions or have any other feedback or questions please contact the Policy team on birmingham@rcsed.ac.uk.
