RCSEd are members of the Obesity Health Alliance and support calls for the government to take action against the marketing of food and drink high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) across all media. RCSEd President Professor Michael Lavelle-Jones said:

“RCSEd welcomes the introduction of the soft drink industry level but recognises that much more needs to be done to tackle the obesity crisis in the UK. RCSEd is a member of the Obesity Health Alliance, an alliance of over 40 organisations, which has been campaigning for an introduction of the levy since 2015. Obesity is one of the greatest health challenges facing the UK and estimates suggest that rates are set to increase.

RCSEd, along with the rest of the OHA’s membership, calls on the government to take action to close existing loopholes to restrict children’s exposure to the marketing of food and drink high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) across all media. This includes a 9pm watershed on advertising HFSS food and drink and to prevent the marketing of unhealthy foods through the sponsorship of sports events and family attractions.”
