The Farquharson Award

The Farquharson Award is in honour of Eric Leslie Farquharson (1905-1970).


Eric Leslie Farquharson

Born in Edinburgh in 1905, Eric had his heart set on a career in medicine from an early age. Graduating from Edinburgh University in 1928, and gaining his Fellowship from the College in 1931, Eric is renowned for publishing his Textbook of Operative Surgery in 1954.


Eligibility Criteria/Qualifying Criteria

In keeping with the original bequest, the award is offered to anyone who has made significant contributions to surgical teaching or surgical anatomy, at either undergraduate or postgraduate level.

The award is open, not only to surgeons be they junior or senior, but also to those in allied professions who have contributed to surgical and anatomy teaching.

Recipients do not have to be Fellows or Members of the Edinburgh College, nor do they have to be medically qualified.

Recipient receives an honorarium of £1000 to put toward their teaching facilities.
