Laparoscopic fundoplication for General and UGI trainees
20th April 2023, 19:00 to 20:00 BST
Overview
Most trainees, interested in benign UGI surgery, are able to perform operations like laparoscopic cholecystectomy. However, many of them are not comfortable dealing with laparoscopic suturing that makes operations like fundoplication difficult for them. This webinar will briefly explain technique of laparoscopic suturing. It will then cover technique of Nissen fundoplication, posterior Toupe, anterior Dor fundoplications. We will also cover re do surgery for fundoplications.
Aims
The webinar is aimed at middle grade trainees who aspire to pursue career in Upper GI surgery. This is relatively low volume operation that requires skills higher than those required for cholecystectomy, particularly laparoscopic suturing. The trainees would learn the indications and standardised technical aspects of fundoplication.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar trainees will understand basics of laparoscopic suturing, Technical details of Nissen fundoplication and its variations. They will also learn “a technique” of re do surgery. We will also cover patient selection process for both primary and revisional surgery.
