An Exciting Week of Diploma Ceremonies

An Exciting Week of Diploma Ceremonies

Last week was of particular note at the College for Diploma Ceremonies, with two ceremonies taking place across two consecutive days. On Thursday 9 March, we saw 82 diplomates from across the surgical and dental specialties gather in Playfair Hall to receive their Diplomas and awards. We had attendees from all corners of the globe including Australia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, India, Iraq, and Malaysia, to name a few, as well as those from across the UK. This is a testament to how special an occasion this is for our diplomates, who have worked hard over the years to reach this milestone achievement.

At the ceremony on Friday 10 March, we were delighted to welcome 83 diplomates to the College for a second day of celebrations. We also had the privilege of presenting special awards to two esteemed guests.

The College was pleased to have Emerita Professor of Otolaryngology at Newcastle University and former RCSEd Council Member, Professor Janet Wilson, in attendance. Professor Wilson was presented with the 2022 College Medal by RCSEd Council Member and Consultant ENT Surgeon, Professor B. Nirmal Kumar. Janet also conducted the address to the diplomates at the end of Friday’s ceremony, leaving our diplomates with inspiring words to fuel the next steps in their surgical and dental careers.

Secondly we were honoured to welcome Tari Lang, Advisor at The Lang Consultancy and Chair of the Board at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh, into the College’s Court of Regents, a group of distinguished and accomplished individuals in their field who provide the College with advice and expertise. Tari commented:

I am delighted to be appointed Regent for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and can’t wait to contribute as much as I am able, to this historic and distinguished institution. The contribution RCSEd makes to patient safety, training, championing standards, and influencing UK healthcare policy are hugely important so I feel privileged to have been invited to join this distinguished body.

We hope that our diplomates and their family and friends had an enjoyable and memorable day that they will cherish forever. Many congratulations on behalf of the College – we hope to see you again soon!
