The 2022 Chennai Conference and the Vascular Specialty

The 2022 Chennai Conference and the Vascular Specialty

We look forward to welcoming friends of the College to our 2022 International Conference in Chennai, India. Mr Andrew Garnham, President Elect of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, Chair of RCSEd's Surgical Specialty Board in Vascular Surgery and Vascular Training Programme Director at Health Education West Midlands, describes what is on offer for those with an interest in the vascular field.

It is great to be coming to Chennai to discuss with colleagues how vascular surgery is developing across the world. It’s a privilege to be able to offer an educational programme relevant to those in the field, and I also look forward to learning from colleagues from around the globe.

We have put together a session of speakers, including past President and the Vice-President of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland and colleagues from Australia, India and Malaysia. The session will explore how the pandemic has affected our specialty, and how we have developed a new training scheme for vascular as a new specialty.

Ms Rachel Bell will examine how telemedicine has helped support service and training during the pandemic, exploring the possibilities for the future. The session will also consider how the specialty and departments have been developed across Malaysia, Australia and India by specialists from these countries. It will culminate in a discussion to explore how challenges have been tackled across these different environments.

We also have a vascular masterclass, which will feature experts from challenging areas of vascular practice. Delegates will be able to rotate around tables in small groups to discuss how various challenges can be approached. We will cover the areas of graft infection, difficult carotid dilemmas, which patients to select for thoracic outlet surgery, how to maintain a walking platform in diabetic foot sepsis, the challenge of getting the most out of available veins for vascular access and the challenges of lower limb venous ulceration.

The vascular faculty look forward to meeting colleagues from around the globe to share their experience at this exciting conference.
