The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh statement in response to the 2020 Spending Review
As the NHS is facing a difficult winter period with staff trying to manage a surge in demand caused by the pandemic, winter flu and an increasing backlog of cases, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh welcomes today’s announcement of an additional £3 billion for the NHS, as well as the news that over one million NHS workers are set to receive a pay increase.

RCSEd statement on the House of Lords Public Services Committee report on the impact of Covid-19 on public services.
The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh was pleased to have the chance to submit written evidence to the House of Lords Public Services Committee’s inquiry into the impact of Covid-19 and welcomes its findings. The report found that the NHS had some successes, upscaling acute care capacity with the Nightingale Hospitals and increased use of digital technology. However, it warns that without fundamental reform these benefits could be lost.

RCSEd responds to cancellation of elective surgery, lack of testing and concerns over NHS staff wellbeing
Whilst we welcome the national initiatives being put in place, such as national monitoring of hospitals and diverting patients to places with spare capacity, our ongoing concerns over the cancellation of elective surgery, the continued lack of regular testing of NHS staff and the impacts that a second wave will have on highly stretched NHS resources sadly remain.
