RCSEd and Dentsply Sirona are on the Hunt Again for the Next Generation of Dental Surgeons with Ground-breaking Competition

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Dentsply Sirona are launching this year's Dental Skills competition, with its first heat kicking off in Manchester on 29 November. Run by the College's Faculty of Dental Surgery, it is now in its ninth year, and aims to discover the next generation of dental surgeons in the UK. The ground-breaking competition sees final year of dental students from across the UK and Ireland demonstrate their aptitudes and skills in a series of challenges. The competition begins with 18 rounds, one at each dental school, during which the students are asked to undertake a complex dental task, with the winner of each heat announced on the night.
Professor Philip Taylor, Dean of the Dental Faculty commented:
"I am delighted to announce that again this year the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Dentsply Sirona are collaborating to host the undergraduate Dental Skills Competition. This is an exciting opportunity for students to participate and understand the work carried out by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and to experience first hand the inclusivity of the Faculty of Dental Surgery to everyone in the Dental Team. It is an opportunity for every dental student to enter the competition in their own dental school and from there the winner will be hosted by the College in Edinburgh for the Grand Final, which is a fun day of competition and a superb formal dinner in the magnificient Playfair Hall. There are significant prizes available for the winners, so we encourage everyone to enter. We are deeply grateful for Dentsply Sirona's long-standing support of this event and to Dr Tom Bereznicki for his generous donation of the digital camera".
The competition will culminate in the Grand Final in Edinburgh on 23 March 2023 at which the top 18 finalists from across the UK will undertake a broad range of clinical procedures before determining who will be crowned the overall winner at the competition’s Grand Final Awards Dinner with prizes from RCSEd and Dentsply Sirona.

Each regional heat winner will receive a trophy, certificate and an all expenses paid overnight trip to our Edinburgh Campus for the Grand Final Competition and formal dinner. All participants of the competition will receive a certificate of participation, as well as two-year complimentary affiliation with RCSEd. The overall winner of the Grand Final will receive £1000 cheque and a Digital SLR camera.
