This month marks the 15th anniversary of Surgeons Quarter (SQ).  Launched in 2006 to manage Ten Hill Place Hotel (THP) as well as the events business on the College’s campus, the company has gone from strength to strength during its fifteen-year history.

Over the years THP has won several prestigious awards and undergone large scale expansion and refurbishment to become Edinburgh’s largest independent hotel.  The four-star hotel now hosts 129 sumptuous bedrooms with a guest gym, restaurant, private dining area and a bar serving SQ’s own 1505 gin and ale!

SQ is also recognised as providing some of the leading conference and events spaces in the city and manages a busy year-round meetings diary serving the needs of both College and external clients.  In terms of venue space, the last fifteen years has seen the former European Language School transformed into an additional events venue which nowadays is known as the Prince Philip Building.

In 2015, SQ opened Café 1505 which has become a popular spot following a visit to the College’s Surgeons Halls Museum and in early 2020 Surgeons Quarter Travel was added to SQ’s portfolio.  The services provided by SQ Quarter Travel, include organising business and holiday travel for the public as well as for College staff, members and fellows.

The last fifteen years has seen many changes, developments, and growth of business for SQ and having bounced back following the severe impact of Covid restrictions, the team now looks to the future with renewed optimism and welcomes the opportunity to build on past successes.

SQ profits are invested back into improving surgical standards and patient outcomes worldwide.
