College Appointments

On behalf of the Council of the College, we are pleased to announce the appointments of Mr Zahid Raza as RCSEd Convener of Examinations and Mr Aidan Fitzgerald as RCSEd Convener of Education.

Also, the appointments of Mr Haroon Rehman as the elected Trainee representative on Council for two years, and Mr Yuri Kulikov who has been elected as the SAS representative on College Council for five years, both of whom will take up their roles in November 2020.


 

Mr Zahid Raza has been appointed as RCSEd Convener of Examinations for three years and will take up the role in October 2020. Zahid has been a Member of College Council since 2018. He is a is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and his particular interests include vascular access and open aortic surgery. He is the past Deputy Convener of RCSEd Examinations as well as the RCSEd Regional Surgical Adviser for Edinburgh. He has an interest in postgraduate exams and teaching. Zahid also runs the Edinburgh MRCS Prep course nationally and internationally and has been an Examiner for the College since 2004.

Zahid takes over the role from Mr Ian Hawthorn.

 

 


 

Mr Aidan Fitzgerald has been appointed as RCSEd Convener of Education for three years and will also take up the role in October 2020. Aidan has been a Consultant Plastic Surgeon since 2003 in Sheffield and has an interest in surgery of the Head and Neck as well as Skin Cancer. He has maintained an interest in training having been the regional training programme director in Yorkshire and the East Midlands for 9 years, Chair of the SAC in Plastic Surgery and Chair of the Interface Trainee Oversight Group overseeing all TIG groups. Aidan is also an MRCS examiner, an FRCS(Plast) examiner, a previous RCSEd Regional Surgical Adviser and current Plastic Surgery RCSEd Surgical Specialty Board member. 

Aidan takes over from Mr Chelliah Selvasekar.

 

 

 


Mr Haroon Rehman has been elected as the Trainee Representative on College Council for a period of two years from November 2020. Haroon is a Specialty Registrar (ST8) in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he sits on the department’s clinical governance and training committees. Haroon has a special interest in patient safety, teaching and training, and is a trainee lead for NHS Grampian. Haroon has a subspecialist interest in lower limb trauma and arthroplasty, and will start a Fellowship at Wrightington Hospital in August 2021.

 

 

 

 

 


Mr Yuri Kulikov is the newly elected SAS representative on College Council and will take up the post in November 2020. Yuri is a Specialty Doctor in Trauma and Orthopaedics in South Warwickshire and represents SAS grade doctors at the Local Negotiating Committee (LNC). Yuri is involved in Orthopaedic research in the UK. A significant part of his PhD work is about equipoise and dealing with variable expert opinions.
