Building a community of like-minded professionals across all areas of remote, rural and humanitarian healthcare is a key objective for us and facilitating safe spaces for our members to connect and share knowledge is one way we can do this.

We hosted our first in-person networking event on Friday 18 November, in the historic Fellows Library at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd). Our Executive Committee were joined by members of the Faculty, plus representatives from our organisation members and partnership organisations for an evening drinks reception.

Attendees heard from Clare McNaught, RCSEd Vice President, who shared her perspective on the important role the Faculty plays within the wider College. When speaking of the core values of the Faculty, Clare said “At the heart of this Faculty is a belief that we must do better for patients in remote and rural settings and those who are experiencing humanitarian suffering.”

Clare was followed by Faculty Chair Dr Rikard Moen, who expressed his gratitude to the Executive Committee, Faculty Advisory Board, Organisation Partners, and Members for their continued hard work, dedication and unfaltering support. The atmosphere in the Library was welcoming and positive, and this was reflected in Rikard’s words, “We are all kindred spirits in this room”.

Later in the evening, the Surgeons’ Hall Museums opened exclusively for our guests for an afterhours visit. This gave guests the opportunity to experience the rich history of the RCSEd that the FRRHH is so proud to be a part of.

We would like to thank those who were able to attend the reception and look forward to hosting more events soon!
