Overview

This webinar, part of the RCSEd Trainees Committee Wellbeing week, will present two speakers discussing financial wellbeing. The first speaker will discuss hot topics for a successful financial future, including discussion of the following:

  • Protecting yourself
  • Mortgages
  • Building for your future – savings
  • Building for retirement / pensions

The second presentation will be a comprehensive 30-minute online session designed to enhance your financial wellbeing as a doctor. Delve into key topics such as understanding your payslip, decoding tax codes, navigating NHS pension contributions, and making informed decisions about private pensions. Explore what expenses you can claim tax relief on and gain valuable insights into creating a study budget.

Aims

This webinar aims to equip doctors with basic practical knowledge and tools to improve their financial literacy and make informed decisions about their finances. By the end of the session, participants will feel more confident in understanding/ managing their payslip, understanding tax codes, basics of pension contributions, and what tax reliefs are available for doctors.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should have a better understanding of ways they can save money, build for their future, and be money ‘smart’ during their time as a professional. Attendees should be able to:

  • Understand how to interpret and understand your payslip effectively.
  • Gain clarity on tax codes and their implications on earnings.
  • Gain an interest in learning more about NHS pension contributions and make informed decisions about retirement planning.
  • Understand the role of private pension options and assess their suitability.
  • Identify eligible expenses for tax relief.
  • Utilise a list of tax relief subscriptions to maximise financial benefits.
  • Understand the study budget and effectively manage expenses claims.
