SASLC Committee

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) is pleased to present opportunities for suitable individuals to join its SASLC Committee in November 2021.

The committee represents Specialty Doctors and Dentists, Associate Specialists and Locums, and those working in other similar grades. Surgeons in these grades are diverse in background, experience, and seniority, which means that there are a wide range of issues covered by this committee. It is a great opportunity to contribute to the College and the development of the SAS role in Surgery.

By promoting the interests of this group of surgeons within the College, this committee will encourage and enable engagement of SAS, locum and Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs) with College activities. The committee will serve to keep the College informed of all relevant concerns and issues regarding these grades of surgeons. Through its strong association with the College and its activities, the committee will raise the profile of the group within the College and externally in the wider professional domains.

Find out more about specific activities of the committee here. Committee members will be expected to contribute to other College committees or initiatives, according to their own interests.

The Committee invite applications from any RCSEd member in a SAS or Locum grade. If you are not yet an RCSEd member, click here to find out about joining our College.

The role on the committee is unremunerated but reasonable expenses for travel and subsistence will be reimbursed on production of receipts and appropriate claim forms. As with all travel on College business, SAS Committee members will be expected to travel in accordance with the RCSEd Travel Policy.

The committee meet three times per year, in Edinburgh or Birmingham with an option to join virtually. The average time commitment for this role is approximately 30 minutes – 1 hour per week. Members are appointed for an initial term of three years and thereafter shall be eligible for reappointment for a further three years, subject to performance and at the discretion of College Council.
